Finlay is a Senior Tutor with responsibility for Fiddle and Ukulele. He has been with GFW for more than 20 years. Well known on the Glasgow folk music scene he played fiddle, guitar, mandolin and ukulele and did tv radio and recording as a member of the group ‘Stramash’. He introduced and developed ukulele classes at GFW and his Come & Try Ukulele Workshops have been a sell out attraction at Celtic Connections. His 2-day Ukulele School has attracted hundreds of enthusiastic participants.
He runs the weekly Slow Jam by Zoom on Thursdays. On Tuesday, Finlay leads a weekly session at the Islay Inn, www.islayinn.com. He runs the weekly Slow Jam by Zoom on Thursdays.
As well as fiddle and ukulele Finlay teaches guitar and mandolin. He is fiddler and dance caller with ‘Cloud Howe Ceilidh Band’. He also works in a duo with Jimmy Ross performing themed programmes (‘Folkumentaries’) on various folk and historical topics, most recently ‘The Legacy of Ewan MacColl’
Finlay teaches pupils (adults and children) in all above instruments privately at his home in the West End of Glasgow and has a wealth of experience in enthusing and motivating people who are often astonished to find they have musical skills after all!
